The claim that BJP MPs are requesting Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to revoke the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens is false.
Recently, a video is being shared on social media with a claim that BJP MPs are requesting Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to revoke the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens. In the video, Mr. Singh can be seen surrounded by people who are expressing their grievances.
A twitter user named Iftekhar shared this video with a caption, "No media is ready to show this, 88 MP from BJP has met Rajnath Singh and requested to take back NRC and CAB."
The same video is doing rounds on Facebook with similar claims.
You can watch the video down below.
The truth behind the claim
In our investigation, we found this claim to be false and the video is an old one from 2018.
With the help of a reverse image search by using the keyframes of the video, we found this video to be uploaded on a YouTube channel named Rapaz News on September 1, 2018. The description of the video says 'BJP MLA Rajendra Singh giving his resignation to then-Home Minister Rajnath Singh, in protest against the SC/ST Act.'
The same video was also shared on Facebook a year ago, claiming the same.
However, we were not able to verify the claims made by the captions in the older videos uploaded on Facebook and YouTube but as the video was originally uploaded in 2018, much before than the CAA or NRC came into public discourse, it clearly means that the video cannot be linked to CAA or NRC.
